The old facebook layout was much simpler and easier for people to navigate around. Everything was just one click away. Besides that, it was easier for the users to search for things they want to on their profile itself or ever on their friends profile page. Everything was set up to be seen on their page instead of having to click a couple of times to get to the page. The old facebook had more privacy back then.
In my opinion, the new facebook layout has made things more complicated for the users. Many have commented that the facebook new layout is very complicating and looks messy. It's hard to navigate around the page and search for things they want to see on their profile or other people's profile. The new facebook has lessen it's privacy and it is harder for us to keep our facebook private.
